The choice is specialization versus integration
Trade Ideas puts scanner windows, alerts, ranking, paper trading, and Premium AI/backtesting at the center. TrendSpider’s current product suite gives all plan tiers access to a broad set of charting, scanning, backtesting, strategy, bot, and AI capabilities, with plan limits changing capacity and timeframe depth.
Where Trade Ideas is the cleaner fit
Choose Trade Ideas when the recurring job is “surface U.S. stocks as defined events happen during the session.” Its Alert Windows explicitly stream events in real time, and Top Lists rank matching stocks separately. That separation is useful for fast discovery workflows.
Where TrendSpider is the cleaner fit
TrendSpider becomes compelling when the scanner is only one stage in a larger technical-research loop. Its current pricing page lists charting, multi-timeframe scanning, backtesting, variance testing, bots, AI-assisted strategy analysis, custom indicators, and data for U.S. equities plus futures, options, forex, crypto, and other markets.
Backtesting depth is materially different
Trade Ideas’ OddsMaker is designed to backtest its alert strategies and the company says it typically uses 40–64 trading days depending on the strategy, with one-minute candle data and no slippage modeling. TrendSpider’s plans describe larger backtest-depth limits, variance testing, slippage/cost adjustments, and multi-symbol testing. Strategy-development-heavy users should compare those differences directly rather than treating “backtesting included” as equivalent.
Decision rule
Use Trade Ideas when real-time equity discovery is the main product you are buying. Use TrendSpider when scanning, charting, testing, bots, and multi-market analysis should live in one integrated environment. If you are unsure, write down which screen you expect to keep open most: a live scanner or a strategy/chart workspace.
